Rose Marie (Whitford) Waite, 79, of Wakefield, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at South County Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Waite and a dedicated grandmother of the late Lorenzo Smith.

Born in Westerly, Rhode Island, on June 21, 1946, she was the daughter of Tryon Whitford and Celia Leona Young.

Rose enjoyed thrifting, where she loved the thrill of finding treasures and uncovering hidden ones. It was a simple pleasure that brought her much joy and reflected her appreciation for life's small surprises.

Spending time with family and friends was central to Rose's life. We found the greatest joy in simple moments together-shared meals, laughter-filled gatherings, and quiet conversations that strengthened lifelong bonds. Rose constantly loved, guided, and encouraged us, always putting family first and creating memories that we will cherish forever. Her presence brought comfort and happiness to those around her, and that legacy lives on through the love she so freely gave.

She is survived by her two daughters, Paula Whitford of Wakefield and Tiffany Whitford of Narragansett; her three sons, James Whitford of Wakefield, Allen Whitford of Wakefield, and Albert Whitford of Coventry; her siblings, Juanita Monk of Newport, Betty Whitford of Providence, Alice Neves of Newport, Brooker Williams of Newport, and Lillian Weeden of Charlestown; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by the late Elise Hazard, Arthur Perry, Ramond Perry, Shirley Andrews, Violet Ortiz, Clara Skule, Elizabelle Stanton, and Edward Perry.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 11 AM to 12 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, with a funeral home service to immediately follow at 12 PM. Burial in New Fernwood Cemetery, 3102 Kingstown Rd., Kingston, RI 02881.
