Rev. Roland C. Mars, 75, of Charlestown, died Tuesday at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Starr (Spears) Mars. Born in Wakefield, he was the son of the late Rev. Harold S. Mars Sr. and Laura (Fry) Mars. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. Rev. Mars was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service working out of Kingston for thirty one years. He was Interim Pastor to several New England Churches and an outreach minister throughout the community. He was a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe and a great outdoorsman. He will be remembered as having a generous heart, a gifted helper and devoted family man. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Sequoya R. Mars; three daughters, Chrystal G. Baker, Mishki F. Thompson, and Silvermoon M. LaRose; nine grandchildren; brothers, Harold S. Mars Jr. and David K. Mars Sr. He was brother of the late Janice Hill. The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors in the RI Veterans Cemetery will be strictly private.
