Roger A. Smith, 89, of Narragansett, passed away Friday November 20th. He was born on July 27, 1931 in Saint George, Maine, to Calvin and Janet (Murphy) Smith. After high school, he enlisted in the service. Once he returned, he met the love of his life, Diane Sawyer. They married on June 25, 1955. In 1958, he graduated from the Maine Vocational Institute. Roger and Diane had one son Roger Scott Smith. Roger is well known in his community as a business owner and Jehovah’s Witness. He opened and operated Industrial Marine Marketing in 1980, supplying fisherman across the northeast. He was well known for his immense knowledge, helpfulness, quick wit, and sometimes ornery disposition. Roger loved to work, in fact, he never retired. The only thing he loved more was his wife and family. Roger and Diane danced every Saturday night until the closing of the Larchwood. They enjoyed traveling, going out to eat, and spending time with family. Roger was always there to lend a helping hand, laugh at you because you are doing it wrong, strike you out in baseball or beat you with his underhanded basketball shot. He was a great husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by many. Roger was preceded in death by his father, Calvin, his mother, Janet, and his biological father, Allison (Skinny) Morris, his siblings, Judy Smith, Pat Mckirdy, Marvin (Ike) Smith, Wayne Smith, and Linwood (Pete) Smith, and his beloved wife Diane Sawyer Smith. He is survived by his Son Scott and wife Heidi: his granddaughter Nequila and husband Andre: his great grandchildren Tiago, Kalani and Viviana; his sisters Caroline MacMillan and Cindy and husband Joe Link; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private.
