Robert E. Winward, Sr., 84, of Narragansett, died Monday. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Casperson) Winward for 58 years. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Leon and Berangere (Gagnon) Winward. Besides his wife he is survived by four children and their spouses, Barbara J. and Gerard Laberge of Chepachet, Donna L. and Richard Jean of Pawtucket, Robert E. Jr., and Dawn Winward of Wood River Junction, and Glenn A. and Laura Winward of South Kingstown; six grandchildren , and three great-grandchildren; and a sister Louise Wordell of South Kingstown. Mr. Winward was a professional Land Surveyor, working for the Town of Narragansett. He also had owned and had worked for several companies. He was a 1948 graduate of LaSalle Academy and attended Roger Williams College. He was a 1985 graduate of the US Army Sergeant Major Academy. He was a Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from the US Army, having served in the 118th Engineer BN and 43rd Military Police BDE Ring. Mr. Winward was a member of the American Legion and Marine Corp Legion. The funeral will be Friday 8:45 am from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Thursday 5-8 pm.
