Robert Jude Loffredo, 71, a loving husband, father, grandfather, died Monday, August 13, 2012, after a short battle with brain cancer, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Paula (D’Agostino) Finnegan Loffredo. Born in Newark, NJ, on September 25, 1940, he was the son of the late Carmen and Columbia (Intintola) Loffredo. Bob lived in East Hartford and Glastonbury, CT, before moving to Narragansett, RI. Trained as a mechanical engineer, Bob attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, received a Masters in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. Bob started his career at Pratt & Whitney and continued as an entrepreneur, starting and running a number of international businesses related to power generation and utilities. He was a co-founder of Farmington Farms and Oakwood Farms Racquet Clubs in Farmington and Glastonbury, CT. Bob was active in Narragansett giving generously to various causes including the Nature Conservancy on Block Island. He was an avid skier, sailor and traveler. Above all, Bob cherished time with family and friends. He was the husband of the late Elaine Costello Loffredo and former husband of Janet Mowry Loffredo; father of Andrew Loffredo and his wife Carol of Exton, PA, Douglas Loffredo and his wife Caroline of Westfield, NJ, Stephen Loffredo and his wife Elizabeth of Sleepy Hollow, NY; step-father of Lori Vine, William Finnegan III, Stephen Finnegan, Robert Finnegan, Mary Poirier and Linda Miller; grandfather of twenty six and great grandfather of five. He was the brother of the late Judy Mohren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett, RI, 02882. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours Friday, August 17, 2012, from 4 to 8 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Robert J. Loffredo Memorial Scholarship Fund, to benefit Prout School students, c/o St. Mary Star of the Sea Church.
