Robert J. Jordan

Robert J. Jordan, 84, of West Kingston, died Thursday. He was the beloved husband of the late Loretta A. (Dawson) Jordan. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late George M. and Louise (Pouliot) Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a graduate of South Kingstown High School class of 1945 and received his B.F.A Degree from RISD in 1951. He also took post graduate courses form URI, RIC, RISD and PC. Mr. Jordan received his Art Teacher and Critic Teacher certificates from the RI Dept. of Education. Since 1987, Mr. Jordan was the owner of R.J. Jordan Graphics, which he began after a 20 year art teaching career with the Providence School System. He was a former Cub Master of Pack 3 of Wakefield and Pack 44 of West Kingston, a former President of the West Kingston PTO,the South Kingstown School Dept. Redistricting Committee, Common Cause of RI, the West Kingston Civic Association. He a member of Christ the King Church, where he served on the Parish Council, and he was a member of the West Kingston Fire Department. Mr. Jordan served in the US Coast Guard, during WW II. He is survived by six children, Thomas F. Jordan of Barrington, Peter J. Jordan of Vermont, Brian R. Jordan of New Jersey, Elizabeth A. Johnson of Hope Valley, John F. Jordan of Richmond and Paul G. Jordan of West Kingston; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Lehnes of New Jersey and Rosalie Plourde of Maine, and a brother, Donald Jordan of Texas. He was the brother of the late George Jordan and Alfred Jordan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Tuesday at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Al’s House, PO Box 9666, Warwick, RI 02889.
