Robert B. Howard, Jr.

Robert B. Howard, Jr., 89, of Peace Dale, died Wednesday. He was the beloved husband of the late Hattie Elizabeth (Blackinton) Howard, they had been married for 60 years. Born in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Hazel May (Collett) Howard. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas in 1951 and North Carolina State in 1952, with a degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Howard was a Civil Engineer for 31 years with the Dupont Company in Wilmington, DE, retiring as Senior Geotechnical Consulting Engineer, in 1982. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, serving with the 99th Infantry Division and was a member of Hiram Lodge 25 AF&AM in Newark, DE. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Paul Russell of Milford, DE; three grandchildren, Benjamin Russell of Milford, DE, Daniel McAuliffe, III of Nantucket, MA and Erin Newell of Attleboro, MA; two great-grandchildren, Daniel Michael McAuliffe and Katherine Elizabeth McAuliffe; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Joanne Elizabeth McAuliffe. Visiting hours will be Monday at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 PM. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
