Robert J. Gamble, 82, of Narragansett and Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26th. Robert, known to all as “Bob”, was born in 1943 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to his loving parents, the late John Gamble and Rose Gink. He was the loving father to Robert Gamble Jr. and devoted husband to Frances (Maggio) Gamble for 57 years.
Bob attended Cranford High School in New Jersey and played football throughout high school. He was a nose tackle on defense and guard on offense, earning him a football scholarship to the University of Rhode Island.
While at URI, Bob met his wife Frances in 1965, where she too was a student. Both graduated and became educators. Bob became a physical education teacher in Hopkinton, RI at Hope Valley, Ashaway and Richmond Elementary Schools.
Bob always enjoyed an active lifestyle - coaching, skiing, playing golf, and running in road races. He easily ran the 10 mile race in Galilee for many years. Besides being a caring and loving husband, Bob had a passion for fishing. Saltwater fishing in Rhode Island, and many years of freshwater fishing while living in Florida.
His warm personality and caring nature will be missed by all.
He is predeceased by his son, Robert J. Gamble Jr.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 1st at 10 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., Wakefield, 02879. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale.
