Robert "Bob" Fitzpatrick

March 18, 1940 — October 16, 2021

Robert “Bob” Fitzpatrick, 81, of Charlestown, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 16, 2021, after a hard-fought battle against COVID-related complications. Bob was born on March 18, 1940, in Manhattan, New York to John and Alice Fitzpatrick. His parents, unable to care for him, left him at the age of four to be raised at Mount Loretto, a Catholic-based orphanage on Staten Island, New York. He later attended a private high school on Staten Island. After high school, he served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. After the Army, he returned to the orphanage as a social worker, while putting himself through college at St. Peter’s College in New Jersey. He graduated with a degree in Sociology and Psychology. He worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1965 – 1986 and married the love of his life, Jane Fitzsimmons, in August 1985. During his twenty-year career at the FBI, Bob rose through the ranks to become an Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Boston office and proudly participated in several historically important FBI investigations. After the FBI, Bob ran a private investigation business and authored a book about his time in the FBI. Bob was also a voracious reader, an avid writer of poetry, a 6-time marathon runner, a lover of art and music, a seeker of the sun, an inquisitive philosopher, an accomplished academic lecturer, and, above all, an extraordinary friend, brother, uncle, father, and husband to those in his life. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice, and his brother, Gerard. Bob is survived by his wife Jane; his children Erin, Alicia (and her husband Nick), Rob (and his wife Nicole) and Brian; his brother Larry, his sister Diane; his nieces and nephews; and his grandchildren Myles, Catherine, Anne, Charlotte, and Elizabeth. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00-11:30am at St. James Parish Hall, 2079 Matunuck School House Rd. Charlestown, RI. A funeral mass will follow visiting hours, beginning at 11:30am next door in St. James Chapel. The family requests that everyone in attendance wears a mask. Arrangements are by Avery-Storti Funeral Home. In remembrance of Bob’s life, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Save the Children Fund or a charitable organization of your choice.
