Robert Moore Combs, 69, of Narragansett, sadly lost his battle with multiple chronic illnesses. He passed at home on March 20th, the first day of spring and the first day of his eternal peace.
He was the son of the late Clayton D. Combs Sr. and Mary Helen Moore Combs. Robert is survived by his ex-wife, Mary, his daughter Christine and her husband Zach, his son Joseph and his wife Erin. He also leaves his two grandsons, Owen and Theo, and his granddaughter, Ever. He is also survived by his sisters Jacqueline Boudreaux (Jimmy) and Jennifer Zaroogian (Scott) and his brother Clayton Jr. (Katie) as well as their children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved dog, Sugar.
Born and raised in the place he called “paradise”, he spent his days fishing for striped bass from the rocky shore, hitting homers out of Sprague Park while playing shortstop, or just hanging out with his fellow “Pier Punks”. He easily excelled at most sports he tried, with the exception of golf, although he never stopped trying!
Robert was a 1973 graduate of South Kingstown High School and truly embraced the “rebel” spirit. He tried college for a couple of days but quickly decided it wasn’t for him.
Instead, he took a different path and worked for local construction companies until he mastered the trade of residential home construction. He then started his own business, “Robert Combs Construction”, and had many satisfied customers who appreciated his fine work and meticulous attention to detail.
Robert’s children and grandchildren meant the world to him, and he would proudly brag whenever he got the chance about his daughter, the doctor, and his son, the accomplished architect.
He will be missed every day by all his friends and family. Goodbye, Robert, see you soon in a better place.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 11 am in St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St, Narragansett, RI 02882. Burial will be private.
