Robert W. Alarie, died peacefully at home in his beloved Matunuck on April 22, 2016. He was the cherished husband of Judith Johansen Alarie. Born in Providence on July 25, 1922, he was the son of the late Henry and Alphonse (Mamie) Alarie. Bob was the co-owner of Crafts, Inc., retiring from active management in 1997. Prior to starting that business he was employed as a mechanical engineer working for several companies including NEC of Japan. Bob designed and facilitated the building of the majority of the earth stations for satellite communications. He was a graduate of La Salle Academy and attended the Rhode Island School of Design. He enlisted in the Army and completed ASTP at Georgetown University. He served in the 102nd Infantry Division. He was wounded in Immendorf, Germany and received the Combat Infantry Badge and Purple Heart. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi parish , and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved travelling, sailing, and especially storytelling. He was most happy when he had an attentive audience. Bob is survived by his daughters Gail Huff of Cranston and Robin Alarie Leach of South Kingstown; grandchildren including Seth Catallozzi, A.J. Catallozzi, Ryan Litwin, Chris Litwin, and Daniel Litwin; and a brother, George Alarie. He was predeceased by his first wife Marie (Bennett) Alarie, a daughter Kathleen Rehm, and his siblings Henry Alarie Irene Beaulieu, Joan Inman, Louis Alarie, and Theresa Contillo. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday 9-10 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St Romuald Chapel, Atlantic Street, Matunuck. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fisher House or a charity of your choice.
