Rita J. Chace, 90, of Wakefield RI, died peacefully on Tuesday July 23rd, 2024. Rita Chace was born to Angelo and Mary Papiro on December 4, 1933, in Brooklyn NY. She was blessed with a large and loving family including six sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her brother Anthony Papiro and his wife Marie, her sister Jerri Crescenti, and her brother-in-law Stanley Urnbanowki. She cherished memories of her late siblings and their spouses: Katie Papiro, Lee and Vinnie Medaglio, Frankie and Marie Papiro, Mary and Nick LaRocca, Gena Urbanowski, and Annette and Antony Alba. Rita also had a special place in her heart for her many nieces, nephews, and their children, always treasuring the time spent with them and the joy they brought to her life.
Rita began her professional journey as a Key Punch Operator, where she found fulfillment and joy. Beyond her career, she was cherished for her attentive nature as a mother. Rita had a deep love for her family, grandchildren, cooking, and gardening. She was very involved volunteering and played an active role in her children's school activities and community events during their younger years.
Rita was a caring mother to Jeannie Daniels and her husband Robert of Franklin, MA, John Chace and his wife Marta of East Greenwich, RI, and Chris Chace and his wife Jennifer of Franklin, MA. She adored her grandchildren: Hannah Chace, Harry Chace, Leah Chace, Emma Chace, and Sarah Chace. She shared a loving marriage with her late husband Donald, who passed away 12 years ago. They met in Brooklyn NY, while Donald was in the U.S. Navy and enjoyed a life filled with love, dancing, and their last home on Point Judith Pond, where they created many cherished memories.
A devout Catholic, Rita faithfully attended Mass at Saint Romuald Chapel, where she sang in the choir and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was also active in volunteering in the Wakefield community.
Rita was known for her loving and sweet nature, always with a twinkle in her eye. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends, embodying the values of love and kindness.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 4-6 PM in Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI 02879. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM in Saint Romuald Chapel, 61 Atlantic Ave, South Kingstown, RI 02879. A brief ceremony at Rhode Island Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 301 S County Trail, Exeter, RI 02822, will follow the service at 12:30 PM.
