Richard J. Yakey, 64, of Pond View Rd., Narragansett, died Saturday. He was the loving husband of Sandy (Arnold) Yakey for twenty-seven years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (O’Neil) Yakey. Mr. Yakey worked for the State of Rhode Island Department of Transportation for many years before retiring and formerly as a lobsterman out of Pt. Judith. He was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School where he played football and was a RI State wrestling champion. He was a communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Richard will be missed for his love of family and friends and his dry sense of humor and quick wit. Besides his wife he leaves several loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was brother of the late James E., Thomas A. and Henry J. Yakey and Maryann Comstock. The funeral will be Wednesday 9:00 AM from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett. Burial will be in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8 PM.
