Richard D. Walmsley

Richard D. Walmsley, 80, of West Kingston, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara L. (Noka) Walmsley for 57 years. Born in South Kingstown, a son of the late Jerry F. and Mary E. (Robinson) Walmsley. Mr. Walmsley was a senior security supervisor for the University of Rhode Island for many years before retiring. He also was the owner of Walmsley’s Music Store in Westerly for several years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Germany for two years and then served in the R.I. National Guard. Besides his wife he was the father of; David D., Jeffrey S. and Crystal L. Walmsley all of West Kingston; Pops to David Jr., Devon, and Darrian; and brother of Bernice M. Young of Slocum. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jerry F. Walmsley, Jr., William E. Walmsley, Sr., Robert T. Walmsley, Sr. and Viola Taber. His funeral service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016, at 11 am in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will follow with military honors in R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours, Sunday 3-5 pm.
