Richard Edward Traynor

Richard Edward Traynor, 89, of Charlestown, RI and formerly of Lynbrook, NY died Sunday, July 16, 2023, in Wakefield RI. He joins his beloved wife Patricia to whom he was married for 53 years.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late William and Theresa (Steimle) Traynor and the brother of the late William. He graduated from Malverne High School in NY, Springfield College in MA, and Brooklyn College in NY.

Rich spent his career as a Physical Education teacher for the Lynbrook School District, where he started the soccer program and coached varsity soccer, varsity baseball and varsity softball. After retirement he committed himself to golf, playing regularly up until the fall of 2022. He also enjoyed woodworking, building toy barns and distributing them to family and friends.

Rich is survived by three daughters, Susan Serra, her husband Dominick, and their children Alyssa (Andrew) and Rick (Alli); Carol Mayer and her husband Steve, and their children Stephanie (Arnav), Samantha (Umber), and Jaime (Zeeshan); and Kathy Traynor and her husband Keith Donovan and Keith's daughter Katie (Eric). He is also survived by four great grandchildren: Everett, Mohan, Zoe, and Sonny; baby boy Serra will make his appearance in September.

A Celebration of Life for Richard Traynor will be held by his family on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Laurel Lane Country Club, located at 309 Laurel Lane, West Kingston, RI. A visitation will be held at the country club from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM with a rememberance held at 11:30 AM. Lunch will immediately follow.
