Richard A. Soderberg

Richard A. Soderberg, 91, of Wakefield, passed away Thursday, June 29th. He was the beloved husband of the late Carolyn (Salter) Soderberg. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur E. and Gertrude A. (Bidwell) Soderberg. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1949. Mr. Soderberg was an Independent Insurance Agent and owner of the former Babcock & Helliwell Insurance Agency. He was an active member of the community belonging to many civic groups. He served as past-president of the South Kingstown Lions Club, past president of the Professional Insurance Agents of New England (PIA), past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island, past president of the URI Alumni Association, past president and honorary member of the Pt. Judith Yacht Club, a member and past president of the Peace Dale Congregational Church, served as director of the Independent Insurance Agents of America, and was a member of the Hope Lodge # 25 AF&AM,. He served honorably in the United States Army Paratroopers during World War II. He is survived by four children, Richard G. Soderberg of Wakefield, Dean E. Soderberg of Wakefield, Karin C. Soderberg of Flourtown, PA, and Kristin L. Waugh of East Greenwich; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Norman R. Soderberg. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Thursday, July 6th in the Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia Street, Peace Dale. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI 02879.
