Richard E. Sexton, 83, of Narragansett passed away January 2, 2026 surrounded by his loving family at South County Hospital.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Richard Sexton and Eugenia (Michelini) Sexton. He was educated at Holy Innocents Grammar School and St. Augustine High School, later attending Hunter College.
Throughout his life, Richard was admired for his many talents. He was a gifted artist, vocalist, and musician with a deep appreciation for the arts. He also delighted family and friends with his exceptional culinary skills. As a young adult, he proudly served as a medic in the U.S. Army, reflecting his lifelong desire to care for and help others. He spent most of his career in sales and in retirement he enjoyed driving for Uber, where his natural ability to connect with people left a lasting impression.
Richard lived life with joy and enthusiasm, especially cherishing every moment spent with his beloved wife, Diane. They shared 48 years of marriage until her passing. From traveling the world on cruises to quiet days fishing at Monahan's dock, they celebrated life together-whether through grand adventures or simple, beautiful moments.
Above all, Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren, whom he supported with constant guidance and encouragement. The love, joy, and devotion he brought to his family were one of a kind leaving a void that can never be filled and a legacy of love that will be cherished always.
Richard is survived by his children: Rodney Schneider and his wife Cathy, Jacqueline Fleming and her husband Danny, and Tiffany Grace and her husband Kevin. He was a cherished grandfather to Ryan, Tyler, Lauren, Madison, and Skylar. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Jordan, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Richard will be remembered for his talents, devotion to family, and his resilient spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation for Richard will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 10 to 11 AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 PM at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
