We honor and celebrate the inspirational life of Dr. Richard Joseph Ryter, a devoted husband, strong father, unfailing brother, and vibrant grandfather. Dick passed away peacefully on November 13, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was a resident of Cranston, Rhode Island and Green Hill, Rhode Island. Dick was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1947 to Mary and Joseph F. Ryter, their only son, and second of four children. He was a graduate of College of the Holy Cross and Cornell University Medical College and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University Hospitals of Cleveland, and Case Western Reserve University Hospitals. Dick was honored with an appointment to Chief Resident, before establishing his private practice in Rhode Island. He is a member of the Providence Medical Society, the Rhode Island Medical Society and the American Society of Internal Medicine. Dick and his wife Marcia enjoyed 37 years of marriage. In East Greenwich, Rhode Island, they raised two children, Amy and Jay, and in the last two years had found extreme joy in their grandson, Jack. He and his family enjoyed travel, sailing, and spending their summers together at the beach. Dick is survived by his wife, Marcia. As well as their daughter Amelia and her husband Mark Nihill, and their son Jack. Dick is also survived by his sisters and their husbands, Roberta and John Heffernan of Old Saybrook, Patricia and David O’Connell of Simsbury, and Kathryn and the Late Jack Costelloe of Old Lyme. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph “Jay” Ryter. Visiting hours will be held at Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Rhode Island, on Friday November 17th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, on Saturday November 18th, at Saint Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett, RI.
