Richard J. Bourbonnais, 89, of Narragansett, RI, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025. Born on January 17, 1936, he was the son of the late Ernest and Lucy (Landi) Bourbonnais. Richard was the beloved husband of Audrey White, who predeceased him, and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Richard is survived by his three children: Jane (Paul) Northup, Richard (Lisa) Bourbonnais, and April (Richard) Pariseault. He also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: John Northup, Harrison Northup, Christina Tefft, Hannah Pariseault, Andrew Pariseault, Angela Pariseault, Grayson Bourbonnais, and Christian Bourbonnais, as well as five great-grandchildren: Oliver, Jakob, Elliott, Enzley, and Caroline. He was predeceased by his brother Anthony and sister Lucy.
Richard, a proud graduate of Hope High School’s Class of 1954, devoted 37 years of service to the Army National Guard, retiring with distinction as a Senior Master Sergeant. Deeply committed to his community, he was a lifelong member of the Narragansett Democratic Town Committee and held several key positions in local government, including Town Sergeant, member of the Zoning Board, and the Board of Canvassers. He served as the Board President for his condominium association. As a lifelong devout Catholic, Richard was an active parishioner at St. Thomas More Church, faithfully assisting with various duties throughout his life. In his retirement years, Richard found joy and purpose working at for University of Rhode Island Recreation Department, and as a URI Police Dispatcher.
Richard will be remembered for his dedication to family, his commitment to his community, his warm, kindhearted nature and his sense of humor.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 4-7 pm in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 10:30 am in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett.
Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
