Richard C. Anthony, 93, a model representative of the greatest generation, passed away Wednesday October 20th, surrounded by his immediate family. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia E. (Grebey) Anthony. Born in Newport, he was one of eleven children of the late Henry and Nellie (Stafford) Anthony. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1950. Mr. Anthony was employed for Grinnell for 32 years, from 1950 – 1982. He enjoyed walking, travelling in an RV, and spending winters in Bonita Springs, Florida, and he was an animal lover, especially dogs and cats. He will be remembered for having the ability to repair things and they would last forever. He served honorably in the United States Army Air Forces, flying P 40’s and P47’s out of North Africa and flew P 51’s out of Italy, during World War II. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth G. Anthony of South Kingstown and Richard S. Anthony of Coventry; two grandsons, Jason R. Anthony of Narragansett and Robert W. Anthony of Johnston; a great-granddaughter, Lyla Anthony; two sisters, Ruth Raymond of PA and Helen Pisarek of Wisconsin. He was the brother of the late Frances Delany, Eldora Kempe, Curtis, Fred, Charles, Joseph, Edward, and Alfred Anthony A celebration of his life will be held Friday, November 18 at 10 am in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield,. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 State Street, #200, Providence, RI 02908.
