Reginald Hurley of Newport, RI peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at his home in Wakefield, RI after a brief illness. Reg was born on April 7, 1927 in Newport, RI to Armstead and Jane Hurley, both from Newport, RI. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Robert, Hazel, William, Charlotte, Francis, Lawrence, and Stanley. He leaves to celebrate his life, his partner of 28 years, Deborah (Deb) Chenevert, five children, Regina Leathers, David Hurley, Kimm Hurley Smith, Reginald (Lil Reggie) Hurley and Jonathan Hurley. A host of nieces, nephews, grand and great-grandchildren and many, many friends. In his early years, Reg served our community by joining the local Masonic Temple. He served our country for four years in the Army. His most renowned accomplishment was when he built and opened Hurleys Blues club on Levin Street in Newport. He was so successful that he purchased the land on Williams Street and built the new and bigger "Hurleys Lounge." Hurleys Lounge became the place to go to hear many famous bands and singers from all over the world. Reg was a successful business man and truly cherished the friends he made. These friendships continued throughout his lifetime. Reg continued in the music business booking bands for the remainder of his life. Reg enjoyed the game of golf, played it years ago, and commented on it ever since. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Arturo Joes in. Narragansett, RI.
