Raymond J. Newbold, 88, passed away surrounded by his family on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret P. Newbold of Narragansett, RI. Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Robert and Helen Newbold (Hogan). Ray graduated from LaSalle Academy and received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Providence College. After working as an industrial chemist, he went on to receive a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island. In 1964 he was one of the original fifteen faculty and administrators of Community College of Rhode Island. During his time at CCRI, he was a professor of mathematics, the first chairperson of the colleges mathematics department, Dean of Arts and Sciences of the Providence campus and the assistant baseball coach. In November 15, 2002 he was inducted into the CCRI Hall of Fame. Ray was devoted to Margaret, his wife of sixty-two years, and his family. He is survived by his children and their spouses Kathleen Ross and her husband Craig of Pawtucket, RI, Anne Epstein and her husband Richard of West Long Branch, NJ, Mary Brown and her husband Joel of Saunderstown, RI, Patricia Haggerty and her husband John of Westerly, RI, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was the father of the late Robert G. Newbold. He is predeceased by his brothers Francis A. Newbold and Monsignor Robert C. Newbold. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bristol. Visiting hours Friday June 1, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
