R. George Wyckoff, 95, of Shelton, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Mosaic Senior Life in Bridgeport, CT, where he was receiving short-term rehabilitation after a recent hospitalization. George was doing well with rehab and expected to return home, but sadly he experienced a sudden cardiac event.

Born April 24, 1931, and raised in Bronx, NY, George was the son of the late Elmer and Anna (Zwicker) Wyckoff.

George lived much of his life in Norwalk, CT, where he and his loving wife, Jeannette "Bunny" (Traendly) Wyckoff raised daughters Serena A. Wyckoff and Denise A. Schoberth-Wyckoff. George and Bunny moved to Wakefield, RI, in 1997 and loved their life together there until Bunny passed away in 2010. In 2020, during Covid, George moved to be near Denise in Connectict and resided at Brightview Senior Living in Shelton until his passing.

For many years, George was an independent franchise owner with Snap-On Tools. Later, he became a home health aide for the City of Norwalk and then found his true passion: hospice volunteer. George had a special gift, helping individuals and their families during their most difficult times. He was really able to determine how he could best serve folks, and he was a great comfort and support to so many.

In addition to volunteering for hospice, George was an active church member in both Connecticut and Rhode Island. He became a Minister of Visitation and supported people who were home-bound or in health care settings. George continued volunteering into his late 80s.

George was a big New York Giants and New York Mets fan and could always be seen proudly wearing one of his teams' hats -- which frequently started fun conversations with other fans when he was out and about. George also enjoyed watching girls' college basketball, cheering on the UCONN Huskies.

Along with wife Jeannette "Bunny" (Traendly) Wyckoff, George was preceded in death by his siblings Kenneth, Alvin, Howard, Jeanne, and Elma. He is survived by his daughters, Serena A. Wyckoff and her partner Cathy Graham of Port Charlotte, FL, and Denise A. Schoberth-Wyckoff and her wife Swani Schoberth-Wyckoff of Stratford, CT; grandsons Hans Finley "Finn" Schoberth-Wyckoff and George Teigh Schoberth-Wyckoff; sister Edythe Stafford; sister-in-law Cher Traendly; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per George's wishes, no service is planned. There will be a private ceremony to bury his remains with his beloved Bunny in Rhode Island at a later date.
