Phyllis A. Tucker, 90, of White Pond, Wakefield, RI died peacefully, Sunday, October 17, 2010 at South County Hospital after a brief illness. Phyllis was born in Somerset, MA to Mabel and Chester Armstrong She graduated from RI Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Her first position was at South County Hospital where she met her husband, the late H. Winfield Tucker, and was his devoted wife for 65 years. She is survived by their four children – Howard Winfield Tucker III of Tenn., Eve Tucker Keenan of Wakefield, RI, Linda Tucker of Wakefield, RI and Bonnie Tucker L’Etoile of Northfield, MA. She was a proud Grandmother of eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. As her youngest child entered first grade she became a full business partner with her husband at Tuckahoe Farms, and their other enterprises. As busy as she was she always found time to serve the community. She was a Cub Scout den mother, president of the local PTA, and very active at her church, Peace Dale Congregational. She served as a deaconess, and twelve years as the treasurer. She was very much involved in the rebuilding effort after the church fire. She was also a major force in the creation of Peace Dale House, a housing project for the elderly. Recently she volunteered to be a greeter and a member of the pastoral care committee. Her most admired characteristics were the unconditional love, affection and interest given abundantly to her family, friends and strangers. All her endeavors were meet with sincerity, grace, and dignity.
