Philip L. Dr. Carpenter

Philip L. Carpenter PhD, 96, of South Bay Manor, died Friday at the manor. He was the husband of the late Helen (Eaton) Carpenter. Born in Newtown, CT, he was the son of the late Warren L. and Lucia (Avery) Carpenter. Dr. Carpenter was a Professor of Microbiology at U.R.I. for thirty years before retiring in 1975. He received a BS from Middlebury College, MS from Brown University and his PhD from University of Wisconsin. He was a member of Hope Lodge 24 AF & AM. He leaves a sister, Elizabeth Metcalf of Falmouth, MA and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Robert Carpenter and brother of the late Lawrence Carpenter. The funeral will be private.
