Perley E.
Doak
January 16, 1928 – April 2, 2026
Perley E. Doak, 98 of South Kingstown passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026 with his loving family by his side. One of twelve siblings, he was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine. Raised on a farm, Perley enjoyed a deep appreciation for hard work and the relationships that came with a farming community.
He graduated from Fort Fairfield High School. He often shared stories of the cold winter mornings riding in the open horse-drawn wagon with other kids to attend the one room schoolhouse. During the winter months he was paid 50 cents a week to start the wood stove to heat the school house. After graduating high school, he moved to Rhode Island to help his sister Alice, at Tibbit's Farm in West Kingston.
At age 22, Perley was drafted into the Korean War where he proudly served as an Airborne Ranger from 1950 to 1952.
Returning to Rhode Island and his farming roots, he went to work for Albert's Farm in Exeter, RI. During the growing season he traveled north to work at Albert's farm in Fryeburg, Maine. His growing family of eight children would spend summers in Fryeburg creating lasting memories. Perley loved the outdoors, taking his children hiking up mountains, apple picking, and searching for the elusive moose. He was an avid New England Sports fan. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife on many trips around the country, always stopping along the way.
Perley was a gifted story teller and a dedicated worker who seemed to fit more than 24 hours into each day. He was a resourceful man, some saying he was like MacGyver and could fix anything with duct tape and wire.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anita F. Doak (Lussier) of South Kingstown, RI. He leaves his children Julia Woods of Exeter, RI, Dennis Doak (Kevin) of Newport, RI, Donna Daggett (Jim) of Middletown, RI, Denise Turner (Chet) of South Kingstown, RI, Michael Doak (Darlene) of South Kingstown, RI, James Doak (Erica) of South Kingstown, RI, Sue Souto (Mario) of Middletown, RI, John Doak (Keli) of Exeter, RI, along with his 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one surviving sister, Evelyn Hanson from Menifee, CA. He was predeceased by his grandson, Zachary Woods.
Services are in the care of Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield, RI 02879. A Committal Service will be private at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hope Hospice.
