Paul A. Metivier

May 8, 1927 — September 12, 2024

Paul A. Metivier passed away at 97 yrs old on September 12, 2024, and will be sadly missed. Born on May 8, 1927, in Pawtucket, he was the husband of the late Doris A. (Savard) Metivier. Paul worked 27 years as a Pawtucket Firefighter, retiring as a Lieutenant from Engine 6, Newport Ave in 1978 and 24 years part time for the Little Sisters of the Poor as a maintenance man and driver, retiring in 1980. Paul and Doris enjoyed their retirement while watching breathtaking sunsets over the water at their summer home in Narragansett where they hosted many family and friend’s cookouts. Paul & Doris both enjoyed boating and clamming, but Paul most of all enjoyed fishing and lobstering. As the twilight years approached, Paul lovingly assumed caregiver duties for Doris who was struggling with Dementia until her passing in 2021, then Paul continued his life’s journey under the loving care of Brookdale of Coventry and Roberts Health Center. At this time, the family wishes to recognize and publicly express our sincerest “thank you and appreciation” to the staff of Brookdale of Coventry and Robert’s Health Center of No. Kingstown.

Paul honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, in the Flaming Sword Division in Berlin, Germany during WW2. They raised 3 wonderful children, Paul E. Metivier (Kathleen) of Wakefield, Gloria J (Metivier) Berard (George, deceased) of Pawtucket and Leo H. Metivier (Christina) of Wisconsin, two granddaughters, Meghan R. Metivier (Nermeen Tahoun) of Boston, Ma. and Merideth A. Baerenwald (Ryan) of Wisconsin, and 19-month-old great-granddaughter, Layla Metivier Tahoun. Paul was the son of the late Henry and Mary Louise (Salois) Metivier, and predeceased by his brothers Edward (Jeannette) Metivier of Pawtucket, George (Frances) Metivier of Narragansett, and Edmond (Josephine) Metivier of Pawtucket and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to nieces Marjorie Mahoney, Theresa Pappas and Janice Bourassa for their many visits to Aunt Dot & Uncle Paul. He was predeceased by his nephew Alan Metivier.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 9 am to 10 am in Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following visitation at 11 am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston, RI. Burial will follow at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Jeanne Jugan Home, 964 Main St. Pawtucket, RI, 02860.
