Pamela ("Pam") Thomas Nolan, 66 of Narragansett, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2016 at her home. Pam was born in Rome, New York to William and Barbara Thomas on July 29, 1949. She went to high school at Rome Free Academy and graduated in 1967. In 1969, Pam married Mark Nolan, with whom she eventually had two sons, Matthew and William. In 1975, after earning a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Buffalo, she studied English Literature at the University of Indiana and obtained her Masters Degree in 1975. In 1992, she began a very successful career in municipal government. She first worked for the City of Rome as Personnel Director and the Assistant to then Mayor Joseph Griffo. After her two sons entered college, she became the Town Manager of Weymouth, Massachusetts, where she served for approximately five years. Pam then went on to hold a series of other Town Manager positions, including in Westerly, Rhode Island, Plymouth, Massachusetts, Truro, Massachusetts, and Seekonk, Massachusetts. At the time of her passing, Pam had been serving as the Town Manager for the Town of Narragansett, Rhode Island for approximately three years. Throughout her life, Pam was involved with a number of charitable and non-profit organizations, including the United Way, the Salvation Army, and the League of Women Voters. She also served as President of the Rome Youth Hockey Association for several years. She was an avid Patriots fan, a frequent traveler, a faithful Christian, and a proud grandmother. Pam loved the ocean, attending the theater, reading novels, and spending time with close friends and family. Pam is survived by her two sons, Matthew (spouse, Nichole) and William (spouse, Nicole), her sister, Lynn Schwartz, her brother, Michael Thomas, her mother, Barbara Thomas, as well as four grandchildren, one niece, and one nephew. She is preceded in death by her former husband, Mark Nolan, and her father, William Thomas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, New York. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday January 30, 2016 prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pam's memory may be made to the Salvation Army at donate.salvationarmyusa.org
