P. Joan O'Brien, 81, of Charlestown, RI, died Saturday, September 6, 2014, at home. Born in Hartford, CT, she was a daughter of the late Henry J. and Lillian O. (St. Onge) McClosky. Joan was a 1950 graduate of Hartford Public High School. She was the beloved wife of James L. OBrien. They resided in Wethersfield, CT where they raised their family. She was employed for The Advanced Financial Group in Rocky Hill, CT as an Administrative Assistant. In 1996, Joan and Jim retired to Charlestown, RI. She enjoyed volunteering at the RICAN Food Pantry and painting with her friends at the Charlestown Senior Center. She was a member of the Ocean Ridge Civic Association. Besides her husband of 59 years, she is survived by a son, Kevin L. OBrien and his wife Sally of South Windsor, CT; two daughters, Nancy L. Cyr and her husband Gerald of Glastonbury, CT and Tracey J. Putnam of Windsor Locks, CT; and eight grandchildren, Shannon OBrien, Elizabeth, Brendan, Hunter, and Andrew Cyr, and Nicole, Timothy, and Elliot Putnam; and one great grandson, Eli Putnam. She was the sister of the late Sylvia M. Haslam. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI, Thursday, 6-9 pm. There will also be an hour of visitation on Friday, 10-11 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. James Chapel, 2079 Matunuck Schoolhouse Road, Charlestown, RI. Burial will be private.
