Oscar A. Newton

Oscar A. Newton, 81, of Lambert Street, Narragansett, died Saturday. He was the husband of Theresa H. (Laffey) Newton and they were married 58 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Oscar and Anna (Connors) Newton. Mr. Newton was a dyer in the textile industry for over forty years. He served in the Merchant Marines during WW II and then joined the Army after Veterans Day in 1945. Besides his wife he leaves a sister, Mary Lou Newton of North Providence, a sister-in-law, Doris Newton of Providence and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Paul Newton. The funeral will be 9 AM Wednesday from the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4 – 7 PM.
