Domenic A. Coppolino, O.D., F.A.A.O., 62 (“Mick”, “Dr. C.”, “Pappy”) passed away Sunday. He was he beloved husband and best friend of Carolyn (Rush) Coppolino for 38 years. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late Domenic and Matilda (Sciola) Coppolino. Besides his wife he is survived by two children Jamison (Jillian) Coppolino of Portland, CT and Michael (Shannon) Coppolino of North Attleboro, MA; he was loving Pappy of Cole, Brayden, Brooklynn, Ashton, and Addison Coppolino, who will miss him dearly; a sister Geraldine (Thomas) Pullano; and two nieces and a nephew. Domenic graduated from URI with a BS degree, the Pennsylvania School of Optometry with an additional BS and O.D degree in 1980. He went on to become the Chief of Optometry at Yuma Proving Grounds, Yuma, AZ. Domenic returned to the State of RI where he continued his optometric career, first at The RI Eye Institute and then at Koch Eye Associates. He became a fellow of the American Optometric Association and was a member of the RI and American Optometric Associations. Three and a half years ago, Domenic received the gift of life through a lung transplant. He honored his donor by cherishing his new lease on life and was forever grateful for the gift he was given. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday, 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to your favorite charity.
