Norris E. Gladding

January 9, 1935 — October 6, 2015

Norris (Dan) Gladding, 80 of Dennis, MA passed away peacefully at his son Peter’s home on October 6, 2015. Born in Providence RI, he was the son of the late Norris H. and Irene (Gadbois) Gladding. Dan was lovingly married for 53 years to Susan Gladding (Dunne) who passed away earlier this year. In recent years, Dan and Sue divided their time between Dennis, MA and Deerfield Beach, FL. Raised in Warwick RI, Dan attended La Salle Academy, attended RI College of Pharmacy and graduated with a BS in Business Administration from The University of Rhode Island. He entered the automotive sales profession, was General Manager at Mid-Cape Ford and later founded Gladding Motors in Harwich MA. Dan was active in the community including being a member in the Rotary Club and co-founded/VP of Y-D Youth Hockey. Dan loved skiing with family and friends and he had a real passion for golf. Dan is survived by sons Peter Gladding, of Wakefield RI and John Gladding of Boston, MA and predeceased by son, Mark Gladding. He was father-in-law to Laura (Torello) Gladding and Julia (Leonard) Gladding and grandfather to Kyle, Daniel, Kala, Richard and William Gladding. Dan was brother to Norene (late husband Ernie) Hutter of Ashland, NH and Elaine (husband Henry) Garberg of Boca Raton, FL, brother-in-law to J. Michael Dunne (wife Inez) of Cranston, RI and Brian Dunne of Truro, MA. He leaves nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. A Mass at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church (Brewster, MA) and a celebration of life will be held on 11am Monday, October 12, 2015. Quotes from a two of his grandchildren who greatly admired his character and sense of humor… Disco Dan was reunited with Runaround Sue to dance and laugh and love for an eternity behind the pearly gates. He was a man with an incredible work ethic, whose great sense of humor brought smiles and laughter to those that surrounded him, who invested wisely his time and money, and whose love of golf kindled great friendships, brought his grandkids closer together through play, and even allowed him to hit 2 and a half holes in 1's! (He was adamant that one only half counted because it was a par 3 course...) He will be greatly missed yet his memory and legacy will live on. Rest in Peace Turkey feathers, we love you and know that you'll live on with us always. You were so many things to so many different people. Always a joker and forever a gentleman. I'll always strive to be close to the man you were. I love you always grandpa. Please feel free to leave the family a note with any special stories or remembrances.
