Nelson G. Bourret, Jr. Seminole, FL, previously Wakefield , RI died Sunday, May 8, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Born October 5, 1926, He was the son of the late Nelson G Sr. and Helen (Nystrom) Bourret. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Kathleen Frances (Fitzpatrick) Bourret of 60 years marriage. He leaves behind 3 children; Edward Bourret of Portsmouth, VA, Lee Ann Quinn and her husband Kevin, Mary Hickey and her husband Jack, both of Wakefield. He has 2 grandsons; Jonathan Quinn of Narragansett and Joshua Quinn of Sandy, Utah and his “4 legged” grandchildren; Baron, Gracie and Bruno Hickey. They are joined in mourning with his brother Rev. Joseph Bourret (Manchester, CT) and sisters Mary DeFanti (Wakefield) and Elizabeth Robison (Durant, OK), along with many nieces and nephews. Nelson graduated from Cranston High School, class of 1944. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944. After returning home from tour, Nelson attended URI in 1948, he was President of his pledge class, PHI MU DELTA fraternity. He began his career as the head textile colorist for the Cranston Printworks. He lived in Cranston until 1962, then moved to Wakefield. In 1963, he changed his career and rediscovered his love for the ocean in the Commercial Fishing Industry. He captained the F/V Jerry & Jimmy and in 1971, he became co-owner of the 1st Stern Trawler out of Pt. Judith, RI called the FV Alliance. In 1989 he retired from Commercial fishing and worked at RI Engine. Nelson referred to that as his little part-time job and enjoyed “all the fellows” at the shop. Shortly thereafter, he and his wife moved to FL. Nelson was a craftsman in woodworking, he shared his talent and made several nautical pieces for the Providence Children’s Museum of RI where they are prominently displayed. Nelson’s love for his family and friends was most important and love for his 4 legged friends past and present brought joy to his life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society HSUS 2100 L. Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037. Visiting hours will be held Friday 4-6 PM followed by a prayer service at 6 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will be private.
