Myra A. Ball, 88, of Charlestown, RI, passed away on Tuesday, April 7 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of John F. Ball. Born in Westerly, RI, on October 5, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Marion (Kendrick) Downes.
After graduating from Rhode Island College in 1955, she devoted her career to education and nurturing young minds. She proudly owned and operated her own nursery school for 13 years in Riverside, where she also raised her family. After working in various educational roles, she retired from the Westerly School Department in 1997.
Myra will be remembered for her caring and loving heart. With her sharp wit and radiant presence, she brought light and laughter to every room she entered. She had a zest for life and learning, which was reflected in her love of travel and reading. She was a long-time, faithful member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Riverside and Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Charlestown.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Laura Flavin, and her son, Peter Duhamel and his wife, Barbara Peck; step-sons Richard and David Berling, and four grandchildren, Kyle (Teressa) and Lucas (Abigail) Flavin, Miles (Maggie) and Abigale Duhamel. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ribeiro, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, George Downes.
Myra's funeral will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 10 AM in the Church of the Holy Spirit, 4150 Old Post Road, Charlestown, RI. Burial will be private. Her visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 4 to 7 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI.
