Murray G. Cordin, 97, of Wakefield, RI, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 8th, 2016. He was the loving husband of the late Jessie S. (Wildt) Cordin for 66 years and the father of Janet Jeffrey and her husband Stephen of Elburn, IL and Edwin “Ted” Cordin and his wife Anne of Portsmouth, RI; grandfather of Matthew (Tracy), Andrew (Kate), and Benjamin (Victoria) Jeffrey, Alex Cordin, Lilli Winthrop and Seth Quest, Jessica Winthrop-Oney and great grandfather of eight. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Murray was born on July 18, 1919 to Eric Cordin and Florence (Murray) Cordin in Kenosha, Wisconsin. While a student at Rhode Island State College (Now U.R.I), he enlisted in the U.S Army shortly after Pearl Harbor, took part in the Normandy Invasion in 1944, and at the conclusion of hostilities in Europe was shipped to the Pacific Theatre for a short time. He retired as a major in the U.S Army Corp of Engineers. He graduated from RI State College in 1947. He spent about 17 years working as a purchasing agent and the remainder of his career self-employed as a manufacturing representative. He was an active member of Peace Dale Congregational Church, and served on several commissions for the Town of South Kingstown. He was a life member of the Snug Harbor Volunteer Fire Association. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, 11:00 am at Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia St, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted and burial will be private.
