Morton C. "Tony" Henley, 86, died Saturday. He was the husband of Johanna (Sullivan) Henley; father of William, Daniel, Kevin, David, Madeline, Stephen and Thomas Henley, Maureen Martin, Kathleen Rhodes, Elizabeth Westcott , and the late Alice Hawksley, Michael, Mary and Therese Henley; grandfather of 39, great grandfather of 51 and great great grandfather of 3; brother of Carold Henley and the late Marshall, Harold and Wayne Henley; step father of Mary Ellen Smith and the late David Smith. Mr. Henley was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers while working at Leesona Corporation in Warwick for thirty-two years. He was a decorated WW II hero, serving in the 141st Regiment, 36th Division, know as the Texas Division. He saw combat in the Invasion of Italy at Salerno and earned the first of two Purple Hearts in the Battle of Rapido River in January 1944, where he was captured, escaped and injured and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the American Legion Downey Weaver Post. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 544, West Warwick, RI 02892.
