Milton Allen Kelley, 98, of Wild Meadow Farm, Peace Dale and Tamworth, NH died May 15, 2011 in Derry, NH. He was the loving husband of the late State Rep. Leona A. M. Kelley and the late Amy Northrup Kelley. Born in South Kingstown, son of the late Samuel J. Kelley and Hannah Potter Kelley and stepson of the late Pearl Potter Kelley. Mr. Kelley began working at an early age at his family’s Kelley General Store in Saunderstown. He operated the family business after his father’s early death in 1930. He was also past President and partner of Point Jude Boats in Wakefield from 1954 till the early 1970s. Mr. Kelley served the citizens of the Town of South Kingstown in various capacities for over 50 years. He worked for the Town of South Kingstown for 50 years, from July 12, 1932 till 1982. In addition, he was responsible for setting up the town’s voting polling places for federal, state, and town elections and for town council and financial town meetings. He was a South Kingstown Police Constable from the 1940s till the 1970s and an air raid warden in South Kingstown during WWII. In retirement, Mr. Kelley was a weather observer taking daily observations from 1981 to 2000 as part of the RI-Bristol County Observer Network. In addition to being an avid investor, he also served as campaign treasurer for his late wife Leona Kelley in the 1980s and 1990s. Milton was a member of the Hope Mason Lodge of Wakefield for over 50 years and was a life member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Milton enjoyed spending time in both NH and Scottsdale, Arizona with his sons and family as well as his place at Pine Tree Point on Harbour Island. He is survived by two sons, Charles P. and his wife Ann G. Kelley of South Kingstown, Dr. John G.W. and his wife Dr. Cynthia Ferrara Kelley of Hampstead, New Hampshire; four grandchildren: Andrew C.P. Kelley, Caroline G. Kelley, Sean G.T. Kelley, and Maria E.F. Kelley, and a brother Samuel Kelley of Darien, IL. He was the brother of the late Charles E. Kelley, Evelyn DeCubellis and Zella Fitzgerald. Visiting hours are 4 – 7pm on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday May 20 at 10 a.m. at St Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Wakefield.
