Mildred Agnes Thunberg

Mildred Agnes Wentland Thunberg died at her Matunuck home with her loving family at her side on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the age of 100. Born in New Britain, Conn., August 16, 1912 to Julia and Emil Wentland, she was the "baby" sister of four brothers. Mildred was educated in Connecticut. She was married for 48 years to Harold Einar Thunberg who died in 1984. Family was foremost her entire life. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: daughter Gail and her husband Glenn Matthews of Wilmot, New Hampshire, daughter Lynne and her husband Dr. James Carnathan of North Kingstown, R.I; son Bruce and his wife, Superior Court Justice Melanie Wilk Thunberg with whom she lived. She loved her nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Mildred celebrated her 100th year with her family and friends at the Palisades Mill, Peace Dale, RI, August 2012. Prior to moving to R.I. in the late 1970's, Mildred and her husband raised their family in Braintree, Mass. where she was employed in the Braintree School System and was active in numerous associations including Eastern Star. In R.I., she was involved in the Legislative Committee of the AARP. She was also a long time volunteer at South County Hospital. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
