Michael G. Rogers, 88, of Wakefield RI and Melbourne Beach Florida passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on August 31st. Leaving behind his devoted wife Gloria Rogers of 69 years, daughter Laurie Finnegan (Mike) son Michael S. Rogers (Maureen) and daughter Carol Read (Stephen). Affectionally known as “Bickie” he leaves behind his seven loving Grandchildren, Ryan Finnegan (Jen) Caitlin McGill (Shawn) Meghan Samartino (James) Brendan Rogers (Carina Musolino) Austin Read (Liz) Garrett Read (Ellie) and Stephanie Read (Chris Beirne) seven Great Grandchildren, Lyla, Shawny, Brody, Parker, Callie, Sadie and Kensley. Mike was born in New York City and raised in Providence RI. He graduated from St Raphael Academy where he was a three-sport star in baseball, basketball and football. Referred to by teammates as “Iron Mike” he graduated from Marianapolis Preparatory Academy and Roger Williams. Mike enjoyed his retirement in Melbourne Beach Florida, affectionately known as “Coach” where he started the ORA Beer League with his buddies from his golf and tennis teams. His passion for his family and friends was unmatched. Mike was always available to talk with everyone who wanted to talk and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and commitment to protect the environment, his interests in science and the universe and his lifelong passion for New England professional sports teams! His knowledge of golf led him to become a mentor to family and many close friends who saw their game improve markedly! He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A celebration Mass of his life will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, September 7th at Christ The King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston.
