Michael Joseph Finn, 77, a lifetime resident of Narragansett, died Saturday, July 13th at South County Hospital, following a fall at home.
He was the son of the late Julia Egan Finn and the late George Joseph Finn. He was the brother-in-law of the late Richard Call, MD. He is survived by his sister, MaryEllen Call and brother-in-law, Richard Clark of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, nieces Catherine (Maksim) Rodzinek, Alanna (Christopher) Garringer, three grandnieces and a grandnephew. He is also survived by beloved cousins Barbara Hazard, the Sheehans, Stickneys, and Joys. In his last several years, Mike greatly enjoyed his time with longtime friends, the "Twin Willows Wednesday Group."
Mike was a graduate of South Kingstown High School and the University of Rhode Island with a degree in political science and later a second degree in Fire Science. He was on active duty in the Navy and in the Naval Reserves for many years, working in electronic intelligence. He was a career firefighter with the Narragansett Fire Department. Dedicated to the welfare of the town, Mike was a member of the Democratic Town Committee, serving as Treasurer, as well as a member of the Lions Club.
Mike was a diehard Red Sox fan and a voracious reader of everything from military history to Baldacci to Louis L'Amour, and most in-between. He was smart and wise and steadfast, known for a rock solid, quiet integrity.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25th from 4-6 pm in Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 26th at 11 am in St. Mary's Star of the Sea, 864 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett, RI. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. A reception will follow.
