Maureen C. DeGeoso, 87, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2021, after a brief illness. She was a lifelong New Jersey resident, born to the late Daniel and Kathleen Donohue (Dunne) in Jersey City, living there until her retirement when she moved to Lakewood. Maureen graduated from St. Michael’s High School in Jersey City and was a homemaker before working as a bank secretary for many years. She was a Eucharistic Minister and communicant at Our Lady of Mercy in Jersey City and at St. Dominick’s in Brick. In 2018, she relocated to Rhode Island to be near her daughter and son-in-law. Maureen was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and aunt. To her there was nothing more important than family. She loved entertaining, decorating and celebrating holidays, and was always willing to help anyone in any way. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Dominick, as well as her siblings, William, Thomas, Eileen, Cecelia, Daniel and James Donohue. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Mark Cantwell, nieces, nephews and grand- and great-grand nieces, nephews and many cousins, all of whom she dearly loved. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at her beloved Our Lady of Mercy Church in Jersey City at 10:00 a.m. with private family viewing at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, February 26, with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ, following. A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends when the pandemic has subsided and it is safe for us all to gather in her memory.
