Obituary

Matthew Michael Morlock, known by all for his warm-hearted spirit, loyalty, and a remarkable willingness to help others, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the age of 47.
Born on April 27, 1978, Matthew was raised in Ledyard, Connecticut and was a graduate of Ledyard High School. For nearly 27 years, he was a devoted employee at Foxwoods Resort Casino, where he was known for his reliability, his endless supply of subtle quips, and his long-standing commitment to a job well done.

Beyond his Foxwoods career, Matthew's true passion and second home was found at the Silver Lake Conference Center in Sharon, Connecticut. After many summers as a conferee, he went on to be part of Camp Family, and then spent numerous summers and weekends as a proud and tireless member of the ETF maintenance crew. His love and dedication to camp never wavered, evident in his consistent efforts to rally friends to Action work weekends, and his willingness to take on whatever task needed doing alongside anyone who needed a hand. He gave countless hours of his time and energy to ensure the camp remained a special place for others.

In every one of his circles, Matt was the definition of a friend who shows up. Described by those who knew him as incredibly helpful, he never hesitated to take a friend's call and was the person you could count on for helping with a move, building a shed, offering advice on how to fix whatever was broken, or just reminding those he loved to smile and look for the best in every day. He will be remembered for his positive work ethic, his generous nature, his sly smile, and sense of humor, and for the unassuming way he made the world a better place for his friends and family.

Matthew is survived by his mother, Cynthia (Walker) Morlock of Norwich, Connecticut; his father Michael J. Morlock of Barnard, South Dakota; his sister and her best friend, Heather Morlock and Samone Thepphalath of Norwich, Connecticut; his aunts and uncles Alan and Patrica Morlock of Clarence, New York, Beverly (Walker) and Ray Sambrotto of West Hampton, New York, Susan Morriss of Florida, and many cousins.

Arrangements are in the care of Avery‑Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Rhode Island 02881. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11AM at the Ledyard Congregational Church, 722 Colonel Ledyard Hwy, Ledyard, CT 06339. Burial is private.
