Matthew Prescott Meyer, 64, passed peacefully at home in Matunuck, Rhode Island, on March 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 4, 1961 in Beverly, Massachusetts, Matthew was the son of the late Edith Knight Meyer and Henry Hixon Meyer II. Matthew graduated from Hartwick College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and went on to dedicate over 40 years of his life to software development and real estate management in the Boston area. His final and most fulfilling role was as the Director of Real Estate at Boston Medical Center, where he took great pride in his work, particularly his involvement in creating innovative solar arrays and rooftop gardens that not only enhanced the hospital’s environment but also served the local community, reflecting his deep values of sustainability and caring for the earth.
Beyond his professional life, Matthew was a man of many interests and talents. He had a profound love for the outdoors, finding peace and purpose in activities like hunting, fishing, skiing, surfing, and beekeeping. He also had an artistic side, expressed through model-building from a young age to the creation of many garden beds that protected his wife’s treasured tomato plants. Matthew often drew inspiration and life lessons from the local nature and wildlife he cherished, instilling in his children the importance of the natural world and all its creatures.
Matthew was known for his kindness, gentle soul, and infectious sense of humor that could light up any room. He found great joy in spending time with his family and friends, and was deeply loved and admired. To his family, he was simply “Dad,” known for his excellent cooking, particularly his chicken piccata and holiday dinners, as well as his unwavering support of his family’s passions. Matthew is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anne Gaffney, and their six children: Alison (Tom), Amanda, Natalie, Andrew, Matthew, and Thomas. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
