Mary (Carr) Rice

Mary Carr Rice, 89, passed away peacefully on February 27th. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Rice, the mother of Robert S. Rice of Providence, RI, Susan Day (David) of Prudence Island, RI, and Leslie Round (The late Kenneth Round) of Brooklyn, CT. She was the grandmother of Ryan Day, Nicole (Day) Bouchard, Susan Round, and Nicholas Round.

She was the daughter of the late Frank M. Carr and Harriet (Sherman) Carr. She was the sister of the late Jean Stutz of Port Charlotte, FL, and the late Raymond S. Carr of Peace Dale, RI.

Mary was a graduate of URI and started her career at Aetna Life Insurance home office in Hartford, CT. She was later the executive secretary of the VP of group life.

After her marriage, she returned to work in the education field. She became the chief examiner for Washington County Adult Learning Center.

She taught reading to many children and adults throughout her lifetime. One of her most cherished accomplishments was her role as co-director of the Student Enrichment Program at the First Church of God, which focused on improving students' literacy skills.

She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10am in the Wakefield Baptist Church, 236 Main St, Wakefield, RI.
