Mary A. Podedworny

Mary A. Podedworny (McAteer), 78, of South Kingstown passed away Monday, May 9, 2016. She was the beloved wife of Lee R. Podedworny. Born in Providence to the late Vincent M. and Mary E. (Heron) McAteer. Mrs. Podedworny graduated from St. Xavier’s Academy in Providence and, in 1958, she graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. For 35 years she was a pediatric nurse in St. Joseph’s and Fatima Hospitals. Mrs. Podedworny was also a member of the St. Joseph’s Alumni Association. She enjoyed sailing with her husband and was an honorary member of the Point Judith Yacht Club. In addition, she enjoyed traveling, reading, listening to jazz music, participating in 5k road races and spending time with her cherished grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Podedworny is survived by her children Theresa C. Powers (Frederick), Lee P. Podedworny Jr. (Sharlene), Julie A. Podedworny and Lori. E. Paul; grandchildren Haley, Samuel, Sophie Powers, Cole and Logan Podedworny and Madeleine Paul; a brother Vincent M. McAteer, Jr. and his wife Dr. Linda Thornton, four nieces, two nephews, three great nephews and one great niece. She was the sister of the late Theresa C. Salo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston, RI. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Greenwich. Visiting hours will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
