Mary A. Oster

July 24, 1931 — August 19, 2015

Mary A. Oster, 84, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, August 19th. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernd Oster. Born in Springfield, MA, she was a daughter of the late Francesco and Delfina (Barone) Nai. Mrs. Oster was a founder of the Willie Ross School for the Deaf in Longmeadow, MA and served on the Board of Directors. She was an Elementary School Teacher in Springfield, MA for many years, and served as a School Psychologist in Longmeadow as well as other communities. In her spare time she volunteered her time working with the Adult Literacy Program in Holden, MA. After moving to Narragansett, she volunteered her time at the Jonnycake Center in Peace Dale for over fifteen years. She enjoyed gardening and was a URI Master Gardener. She is survived by three children, Susan Chamberlain of Ashland, MA, Martha Hyman and her husband Bruce of Cumberland, and Michael Oster and his wife Sarah of Westerly; five grandchildren, Keri Chamberlain, Kayla Hyman, Matthew Hyman, Sofia Oster, and Matilda Oster; and a brother Joseph Nai of Albuquerque, NM. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm Sunday in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
