Mary Josephine Malcolm

Mary Josephine (Imbriglio) Malcolm of West Kingston died peacefully at home on Sunday, 25 June. Her beloved husband of 58 years and caretaker, Alexander Russell Malcolm, was at her side. Born in Providence on 19 March 1936, she was the daughter of the late Amedeo and Ida Imbriglio of West Warwick, RI.

Mary grew up in the Natick section of West Warwick where she attended St. Joseph School through grade nine. Grade ten was completed at St. Xavier’s Academy in Providence. She then attended John F. Deering High School in West Warwick from which she graduated with honors in 1953. In 1986 she graduated from the University of Rhode Island (Bachelor of General Studies) with High Distinction and was elected to Phi Kappa Phi Society.

In 1955 Mary began a career with the United States Federal Government. The first ten years included service with the Internal Revenue Service and the United States Navy (USNCBC Davisville, and NAS Quonset Point). The last twenty-eight years were with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Research Laboratory at Narragansett. Mary retired in 1993 as a budget analyst GS-12.

In addition to her husband, Mary leaves her brother Amelio Imbriglio of Warwick and her sister Julia Michaud of Bedford, NH. Nephew David Imbriglio (Chrissy) and grandnieces Jennifer Imbriglio and Jessica Imbriglio of East Greenwich. Niece Christine Morelli of Warwick, grandnephew Kyle (Alissa) Morelli of Burrillville and grandnephew Nolan Morelli of Coventry. Nephews Bruce Michaud of Dunbarton, NH and Alan Michaud of Henniker, NH. Brother-in-law Robert Malcolm (Pauline) of Warwick, their children Steven Malcolm (Donna) of Huntersville, NC and daughter Catherine Peabody of West Greenwich. Sister-in-law Joan Donnelly of Seekonk, MA and her son Michael of Seekonk and daughter Christal of Norton, MA. Stepsister Elaine Bjorklund (Robert) of Coventry, stepbrother Denis Dandeneau of Manchester, ME, and stepbrother Robert Dandeneau (Carol) of Humble, TX. She also leaves many cousins and friends.

Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, and writing and reading poetry. She loved the poems of Robert Frost. She also enjoyed studying Italian, playing the guitar and singing country music, playing cards, genealogy, canoeing and astronomy.

Funeral services and burial were private. Calling hours were respectfully omitted. Interment was in New Fernwood Cemetery, Rte. 138, West Kingston.
