Mary Lou Kudej (Goodwin), 82, passed away January 12, 2019. She was born January 17, 1936 in Hartford, Connecticut. Moved to Gales Ferry in her early teens, and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1954. She married Joseph Kudej in 1955 at St Marys Cathedral in Norwich, Connecticut. Mary Lou worked as a Media Specialist at St. Bernards High School and retired in 1982. She enjoyed winters in Englewood, FL and summers in Timber Creek Resorts in Westerly, R. I. with her friends, family, and her beloved pet Beau. Mary Lou is survived by 3 children, Deborah Figarsky and husband Philip of Narragansett, RI, Ramona Greenwood of Griswold, CT, and Robert Kudej and wife Betsy of Norwich, Ct. Also 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Constance Beattie of Massachusetts and Polly Goodwin of Norwich, CT. She is predeceased by her husband, Joe Kudej, and her parents, Mary and Harry Goodwin. Mary Lou was a champion wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a longtime patron of Theatre by the Sea, craftswoman and an avid reader. She belonged to the Red Hats Society and loved her game groups. Her always positive attitude reminded us of what is really important in life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 11 King Charles Drive, Portsmouth, RI, 02879. A private memorial service will be held by the family.
