Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Geary and Mary (McGovern) Geary. A lifelong Rhode Island resident and scholar, she was a 1968 graduate of Central High School, and a 1972 graduate of Rhode Island Collage, majoring in English, Music, and Secondary Education. In addition to history and music, Mary loved the beach. She was a lifeguard at various state beaches and the beach manager at Scarborough Beach for several years. An avid baseball fan, she enjoyed her time working at the Pawtucket Red Sox Stadium and travelling to various ballparks throughout the United States. Mary is survived by her loving brother, John J. Geary, Esq. and his wife, Judy, of Plymouth, Massachusetts; nieces, MaryKate J. Geary and Jennifer J. Geary, both of Dorchester, Massachusetts, and nephew, John J. Geary, Jr., of Boston, Massachusetts; and numerous cousins and extended family, including Brendan McGovern and Kyle McGovern, of Charlestown, Rhode Island, with whom she shared wonderful memories and adventures during their time together. In remembering Mary, her family and friends are comforted by one of her favorite quotes from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Be Silly. Be Honest. Be Kind," which is how Mary lived her life.
