Mary Jane Garvey, 74, of Green St., died Saturday. She was the beloved wife of former South County State Representative Eugene F. Garvey for fifty years. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Genevieve (Bonde) Murphy. Mrs. Garvey was an elementary school teacher for the Warwick School System in the 1960’s and a substitute teacher for the South Kingstown School System in the 1990’s. She was a graduate of St. Xavier and Salve Regina University in 1957. She enjoyed gardening and watching her grandchildren play sports. Besides her husband she leaves three sons, David G. Garvey and his wife Lisa of Storres, CT, Jonathan S. Garvey, Peter E. Garvey and his wife Lisa of South Kingstown; a daughter, Carolyn J. Garvey and her husband Jeffery of Bethesda, MD; a sister, Barbara Patrick of SC and five grandchildren, Monica, Maxwell, Caitlin, Emma and Owen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 AM in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Monday 5-8 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to RI Special Olympics, 30 College Hill Rd., Warwick, RI 02886.
